- There’s no better time to try to muscle train a flabby optimistic streak than in the midst of a gray Berlin winter. So in this spirit, I decided Rena Lange’s ultimately round sunglasses from the spring/summer 2011 collection were just what I needed - despite almost no sun to speak. I just found out that the sunglasses didn’t get as far as production. Schade, because they’re subversively elegant, which is just the kind of twist the traditional Rena Lange customer needs. And me? The almost circular frames are very, very shiny black plastic with a poured on lacquer black sheen (made in China) – very John Lennon meets Yoko Ono. Definitely like that. The dark bottle green lenses are semi-recessed. That is, they sit in the middle – not at the very front – of the frame, which just brought up a flash of Dr. Caligari. Like that too. However, if I look the truth in the face – my face, that is – they’re probably a bit too round or big for me, as they cover more than half my eye-brows, revealing a rather ungainly top contour. So if these are the glasses for me, I’m going to have to deal with my brows. A frightful prospect.
